The Insider: Celebrate Design at DesignPhiladelphia

"In many industries, the number of businesses that have turned their attention to the value of design has approached a tipping point.  Mainstream business media such as Business Week and Fast Company have declared design strategy 'the new black,' moving away from Six Sigma and other respected methodologies upon which many corporations have built their operational practices.  The conversation about why design is increasingly important for product differentiation, business problem solving, and global competitive advantage is a lively international one - weaving through the agendas of everything from the World Economic Forum in Davos to design conferences in Singapore, Boston, Aspen, Toronto and Shanghai."

-- Dr. Larry Thompson, President, Ringling School of Art & Design

And perhaps nowhere is this more true than in the Philadelphia region - especially from October 16th to October 20th, when design leaders and innovators will meet at DesignPhiladelphia to celebrate our vibrant and growing design community.

Innovation Spotlight: Creative Support for Design

Spotlight Image

Innovation Philadelphia spotlights regional creative industry entrepreneurs and young professionals making an impact on the Philadelphia Region, or innovative initiatives that showcase the tremendous innovative and creative talent driving Philadelphia's economy.

October's spotlight on creativity is creative entrepreneur David A. White. David established DesignDesign, then a one-person consultancy, in 1994. After one year, David joined SMX, a client, as their Marketing Director and within three short years helped the business grow from $2 million per year with nine employees to $22 million per year with 90 employees. After his success at SMX, David was sure other manufacturers could grow just as quickly with his help, so he reopened DesignDesign in 1998. David was inspired to reshape DesignDesign to become an Industrial Design and Marketing firm from his marketing experience at SMX.

In January, 2007, DesignDesign and Centerline Design, Marketing and Graphics, merged. Kathy Lick Pilla, Centerline President, and Chester County's "Business Woman of the Year" and joined David to grow the marketing communications and advertising side of DesignDesign.
