The Insider: Software Development, 'Philadelphia Puts a Premium on Superstar Talent'

Innovation Philadelphia's new study Creative Footprint, has uncovered particular strengths within the following industry sectors: Software Development; Communications and Marketing; Architecture, Engineering and Planning; Graphic and Visual Arts and Multimedia Design; Product and Merchandising Design; and Information Technology. Over the next six issues, Innovation Matters is taking an in-depth look at the big six. Here's what we've found about software development:

The Philadelphia Region's software development industry sector economic impact on the Philadelphia Region is $5.9 billion annually. Software development, as an industry, employs 64,600 workers with average annual wages of $77,500. Software development firms comprise 21 % of all creative industry employment in the Philadelphia Region.

The Philadelphia Region's software development industry - defined in Creative Footprint as all industries/occupations impacting computer system and software production and service - boasts impressive highly-skilled employees. From 2003-2005, occupational employment grew by 12.4%. The region's software development employment growth in recent years sets the stage to enhance Philadelphia's reputation as a software development hub.

Innovation Spotlight: Optimizing Development Technology

Innovation Philadelphia spotlights regional creative industry entrepreneurs, young professionals making an impact on the Philadelphia region, or innovative initiatives that showcase the tremendous innovative and creative talent driving Philadelphia's economy.

February's spotlight is local creative entrepreneur, Scott Becker. Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Invite Media, Scott formed the Philadelphia-based startup that focuses on ad optimization technology.

Philadelphia and High-Tech - Realize IT

When you think high-tech, realize Philadelphia is the place to find IT. Local consulting company Chariot Solutions is enhancing the Philadelphia Region's reputation in the IT industry by hosting the Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise Conference at Drexel University on March 26 and 27.

Now in its third year, Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise offers both technical and management tracks in technologies that are revolutionizing the IT spectrum. The speaker list for this event is more than 40 strong and includes regional, national and international emerging technology thought leaders. More than 400 attendees are expected attend. Campus Philly Online Internship Fair

Hire an undergraduate or graduate student intern for this summer or fall. Campus Philly is partnering with JerseyIntern.com to enable Greater Philadelphia's employers and college students to easily connect for mutually rewarding internship experiences.
