The Insider: Go Green in Philadelphia

"Going green" has been the new trend in recent months as businesses are altering their business plans to incorporate a green component. While the complexity of green strategies can vary, even small changes in your business and daily routine can make an impact on the environment (and your wallet!).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the world population is expanding at a mind-boggling rate, and it is estimated that the population will swell to over 9 billion by 2050. So if the world's natural resources were evenly distributed, people in 2050 will only have 25% of the resources per capita than people had in 1950, the Go Green Initiative reports.

Innovation Spotlight: Mastering Green Design

Innovation Philadelphia spotlights regional creative industry entrepreneurs and young professionals making an impact on the Philadelphia Region, or innovative initiatives that showcase the tremendous innovative and creative talent driving Philadelphia's economy.

July's spotlight on creativity is Jaime Salm, Creative Director of MIO, a design company dedicated to creating the most sustainable and innovative design experiences in the market. A native of Medellin, Colombia, Jaime was interest in the arts and sculpture as a young adult, which led him to study under several art academies, independent local artists and architects. He received a bachelors of Science in Industrial Design in 2001 from The University of the Arts.

Following graduation, Jaime founded MIO with his brother, Isaac, and exhibited his first collection at the 2003 International Contemporary Furniture Fair. Since then products from the MIO Collection have been showcased by Material ConneXion, Felissimo Design House, The Ontario Science Center, The National Building Museum in Washington and The Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, among others.
