The Philadelphia Region's graphic and visual arts and multimedia design industry sector's economic impact on the Philadelphia Region is $1.8 billion annually. This creative industry sector employs 36,700 workers with average annual wages of $33,400. Graphic and visual arts and multimedia design firms comprise nearly 12% of all creative industry employment in the Philadelphia Region.
The graphic and visual arts and multimedia design industry - defined in Creative Footprint as all industries/occupations relating to the creation, production and distribution/sale of visual and graphic arts and multimedia products - houses highly impressive workers such as artists, printers, illustrators and designers. Innovation Spotlight: A Philadelphia Creative in Need of a Megaphone
Innovation Philadelphia spotlights regional creative industry entrepreneurs and young professionals making an impact on the Philadelphia Region, or innovative initiatives that showcase the tremendous innovative and creative talent driving Philadelphia's economy.
March's spotlight is local entrepreneur, Ian Cross. As CEO and Co-founder of I-Site, interactive design and eMarketing firm in Philadelphia, Ian is extremely involved in the strategy and creative direction of the company. Ian moved to Philadelphia from Boston in 1990, attracted by Philadelphia's "tough reputation and gritty exterior." As a marketing director at MacSpecialists, Ian learned how much creative talent Philadelphia holds.
I-Site was created in 1996 by Ian and fellow web designer Ray Katz, in an Old City second bedroom. Over the last few years he has witnessed first-hand as the Philadelphia Region's reputation grow on the international stage as a home for "creative thinkers and doers."

DesignPhiladelphia: Spotlighting the Creative Community
Philadelphia has caught the eye of America's cool-hunters. We are emerging as a 21st century metropolis, pulsing with creative energy. To celebrate this surge, DesignPhiladelphia arose to unite Philadelphia's design community and focus is on design with a capital "D" and showcases the disciplines of architecture, graphic design, product design, textiles, fashion, multimedia and urban design.
Administered by The Design Center at Philadelphia University, DesignPhiladlephia 2008 is a week-long celebration scheduled for October 16th - 22nd. Approximately 60 participants will offer exhibitions, book signings, workshops, symposia, hardhat tours, and open studios, all related to creativity, innovation and design. Innovation Philadelphia will also hold its second annual Creative Industries Career Fair during DesignPhiladelphia.
